THE BLUE ROSES” WRITING CONTEST FOR YOUNG AUTHORS!

After I visit your school and do my "Author in the Classroom" presentation, you will have learned about the Writing Process and what professional writers do and how they write. I always leave a writing assignment based on my picture book, "The Blue Roses" with your teacher, and one day I thought, "Wait a minute. I never get to see any of the work the students do. How crazy is that?" I remembered how "The Blue Roses" was published because it won Lee & Low Books' first New Voices Award. Let me tell you, it is a wonderful surprise and honor to win a writing contest. So, I decided to hold a young writers' writing contest and post the winners on my website. You won't win a million dollars or a trip to Disney World or anything like that, but this will give you a chance to show off your own creativity and maybe win a small prize. I hope you take a chance and get it a try. Here are the simple rules:

RULES:

1. Complete the writing assignment by following the writing process as we discussed when I visited. For “The Blue Roses” contest, your selection should be between 50-100 words.
2. Make sure your full name, age, grade, and school name are on the back of the paper.
3. Hand them back to your teacher who will then mail them to me.
4. A panel of judges will read the entries and make their decision, which will be final.
5. Winners will be posted on my website www.lindaboyden.com approximately two weeks after I receive the packet of writing samples from your teacher.
6. Prizes will be mailed to the winners.

• FIRST PLACE: A $25 Barnes & Noble gift card
• SECOND PLACE: A $15 Barnes & Noble gift card
• THIRD PLACE: An autographed copy of "The Blue Roses"
